XNA Dev kit enables WiiMote Support

Ok, so we know that Viva Pinata, that sneaky hit on the Xbox 360 is coming to the DS, but it seems that the Microsoft/Nintendo cross-over is going beyond moving IPs from one platform to another.

Hot on the heels of our recent article about the guy who hooked up his WiiMote to his Xbox 360 comes the news that Microsoft are building in support for the WiiMote anyway!

According to nintendoworldreport.com, Microsoft have demoed an extension for it’s XNA development kit that adds in support for the Wii Remote as an input device.

But before you go thinking that you can get some WiiMote action on your Xbox 360, you’ll be sad to hear that seeing as the Xbox 360 doesn;t have Bluetooth, and that’s what the WiiMote needs to connect, this XNA extension will only be good for PC games...

All we need now is someone to bring out a Bluetooth dongle that the Xbox 360 recognises and everyone’ll be happy.

Excellent news, would be great to see Wii Remote used on more sphisticated games. Let Nintendo do what they do best and MS do what they do best but with controllers for both.
Good move that imho, universal hardware is the way to go and it means no stupid law suits for copying other peoples technology…
