Intel are set to acquire Havok, the Dublin-based company whose technology has been used in many of the top videogame titles, including Bioshock, Half Life 2 and Oblivion.

Havok provides interactive software and services for digital media creators in the video game and movie industries and have partnered with many game developers, including Sony, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft and Activision. Havok's technology has been used in more than 150 game titles and used to drive special effects in movies such as Poseidon, The Matrix, Troy and Kingdom of Heaven.

Havok CEO, David O'Meara said in a press release "Intel's scale of technology investment and customer reach [will] enable Havok with opportunities to grow more quickly into new market segments with new products than we could have done organically. We believe the winning combination is Havok's technology and customer know-how with Intel's scale."

Intel's Software and Solutions Group general manager and Vice President,Renee J Jame added: "Havok is a proven leader in physics technology for gaming and digital content, and will become a key element of Intel's visual computing and graphics effort."

The press release states: 'It will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Intel and will continue to operate as an independent business working with its customers in developing digital media content. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
