A gnat's chuff away from catching up.

According to reports from videogame data gatherer, VG Chartz, Nintendo are barely a cat's whisker away from catching up Microsoft in terms of global sales of Wii.

Despite the huge gap between the launch dates of Xbox 360 and Wii, the website are reporting that Xbox 360 has currently sold 10.32M world-wide, with Nintendo's Wii selling 10.10M units, proving that casual games, plus the innovative Wii-mote are proving to be a bigger hit worldwide than hardcore gaming on the Xbox 360.

Microsoft are planning to improve on recent sales with a new range of IP aimed at attracting the casual gamer.

See here's the thing with VGChartz: it's completely inaccurate. It even measures its own inaccuracy against NPD which is actually used by market analysts.

How inaccurate is VGChartz? Well in June 07 there were between a +9 and -22 per cent differences - that's a whopping 29% swing! When you are measuring units in the millions this could equate to an error rate of between 900K units to 2Million.

I'd post the link for the VGChartz to NPD errors but it won't let me…

Why can't you post the link?

I thought VG Chartz uses retailer information for their stats?

This is the second time that i've seen these figures (from a different source) so there must be something in it.

I don't think price will be much of a factor, the Core system is very close on price to the Wii, but Nintendo have said all along that they intend to go after different markets with the Wii. Seems that its working in their favour :D All i can say is well done Nintendo.
