Price cuts announced across the range

Microsoft have announced they’re reducing the retail price of Xbox 360 by $50 beginning August 8 at United States retailers nationwide.

"The fact that we have been able to keep our launch price longer than any other console while retaining our leadership position demonstrates that consumers believe in the value of Xbox 360," said Mitch Koch, corporate vice president, Global Retail Sales and Marketing Group, Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "On the eve of the best holiday games lineup ever, and the launch of Madden NFL 08, there has never been a better time to jump into Xbox 360."

So what are the price cuts? A premium Xbox 360 is now $349.99, with the usual 20 GB hard drive, Wireless Controller, Xbox 360 Headset etc...

If you're looking for something more in the value range to upgrade later, the Xbox 360 Core System now has an estimated retail price of $279.99

Then there’s the 120GB Xbox 360 Elite which will be fetching up at $449.99 for the 1337 amongst you.

Oh, and for you tea-bagging addicts, there’s an Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console on the way in September with a price of $399.99. This will feature an authentic Spartan green-and-gold finish, this console includes a matching Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, 20GB hard drive, Xbox 360 Headset, 360 Play & Charge Kit, and other extras.

No news as to whether these price cuts will make it across the pond so either they will and we’ll all be happy or we’ll get the usual junk about cost of importing, higher taxes and all that stuff. Let’s wait and see, eh?

£25? I wont be running out to buy one yet.
£25, what exchange rate are you using? Must be the real one on the stock exchnage because we all know there is a special one that international companies use, its called “The GB Rapeability Scale”, using this highly specialised system I would expect to see a price drop inline with America of about £2.50 down to perhaps £1.74. And whats more you should be overjoyed at that. However even better you may be offered a statement about what good value for money these object/s represent, if that occurs be overjoyed with the statement.

There may be some sarcasm in there, somewhere.
Didn't they confirm there was no price drop in the UK anyway?
If you read Major Nelson, they have said that pricing changes for other countries will be ‘announced at the approriate times’. Whatever that means.
But if there is a price cut then maybe the rip-off exchange rate would work in our favour. If an Xbox Premium was orinally $400 US and £280UK then the dollar to pound exchange rate is about $1.43 to £1. Therefore if the price drop is $50US if that is applied proportionally to the UK price then the drop should be about £35. In reality maybe they would aim for a nice round number like £250.
