Xbox LIVE to promote HD DVD versions of 300 and Heroes: Season 1
To promote a deal with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, which will see 300 and Heroes: Season 1 launched on HD DVD, Microsoft unveiled exclusive content for Xbox LIVE Marketplace which will offer 300 on demand in HD starting August 14th.In advance of the street date for the Heroes: Season 1 HD DVD boxed set, Xbox LIVE members will be able to download for free the show’s pilot episode in high definition for a limited time. Members will also be able to download trailers, teaser scenes and other promotional materials highlighting the Heroes: Season 1 boxed set on HD DVD.
But there’s no news on whether all of this info is, like the price drop, applicable to the US only or if the rest of the world will get a look in...
Of course, you could call me a cynical, bitter hack, but I’m more and more wondering if the large corporations, Microsoft included, realise that this secular pricing and bundle deals does little to enamour their users to the brand?
If we’re lucky we can probably expect a press release giving us some rubbish about how the take up of HD TVs in Europe lags far behind the US so it’s not worth the bother doing any sort of promotion. Of course, I will offer up my marketing expertise here to say that if HD equipment was cheaper perhaps they’d see faster growth?
But what do I know, I don’t wear a power tie, have a ponytail or use a Bret Easton Ellis novel as my life guide...
