Paleo Entertainment to make Merchants of Brooklyn with CryENGINE 2

Paleo Entertainment have announced that they have begun developing a new FPS game entitled "Merchants of Brooklyn" and it’s going to be powered by the new CryENGINE 2 from Crytek.

Said Troy Latimer, President of Paleo Entertainment, "Before licensing the CryENGINE 2® for our new project we looked carefully at all our options, and concluded no other engine could produce the kind of AAA quality game we were aiming to develop, nor were any other toolsets as advanced or user friendly as the ones delivered with the CryENGINE 2. The combination of the best rendering and physics engine of any middleware available, together with the powerful Sandbox 2 editing system, was what led us to decide to license this technology from Crytek rather than attempt to develop an engine ourselves, or license something from another 3rd party. With this agreement in place, we can immediately begin to move forward with prototyping our game, secure in the knowledge the engine will be able to handle everything we need, while the tools will give us the creative freedom to build the kind of next generation game no one has been able to make until now."

We’re willing to bet that Epic’s Mark Rein will have something to say about that with the well established and popular Unreal Engine 3… and of course there’s no truth whatsoever in the rumour that 3D Realms are looking at CryENGINE 2 for Duke Nukem Forever… no, really they’re not… honest!

Bit worrying really, buying a completely untested platform!
Untested? I would hope not, they released a trailer a while ago for the CryENGINE 2, I would think the engine is pretty much done and dusted (aside from a couple of updates down the line maybe).

Would that be like the Unreal engine used in Robo blitz (or whatever it was called)?
Or like the Unreal engine used in pretty much everything coming out at the moment?

Thank god some people are licensing CryEngine 2, I was worried that every game I played was going to be running off Unreal from now on. Plus, the engine looks amazing.
