$199 is the ideal price

Microsoft's product manager David Hufford says that the company are well aware that a drop in the price of the Xbox 360 could send sales of the console through the roof. On the back of Microsoft's recent announcement, in which they confirmed their intentions to attract a new audience by developing more family-orientated games, Hufford believes that dropping the price to $199 would be the ideal price for a family consumer.

The comments came during an interview with Bloomberg, when Hufford said "We are well aware that the sweet spot of the market is really 199 bucks." Xbox boss, Peter Moore also suggested that Microsoft are poised to drop the price of the Xbox 360 so that the business can expand. "If we don't make that move, make it early and expand our demographic, we will wind up in the same place as with Xbox 1, a solid business with 25 million people," he said. "What I need is a solid business with 90 million people."

A number of analysyts believe the reduction may come as soon as September.
