Advert withdrawn for encouraging violence
The masters of the controversial ad are at it again, but this time it's the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa that are up in arms over a printed Playstation 3 advertisement which 'depicts a man with a black eye, scratches, stitches and stab wounds, with the slogan "STOCKS ARE LIMITED. THINGS COULD GET UGLY" appearing across the screen.'
A spokesperson for the ASA has said that the advertisement is "irresponsible and offensive as it encourages crime and violence," and as a result the advert has been withdrawn with immediate effect.
The advertising campaign for the PS3 in South Africa has been shrouded with white lies from advertising agencies, including recent adverts which claimed that "The PS3 is built on the revolutionary cell-processor, which is 8 times more powerful than most computers" and that the "RSX Graphics Technology – twice as powerful as the most advanced computer graphics engine available today." Advertisers were forced to withdraw the advert after complaints that the advertisement was misleading.
South Africans are currently paying the highest prices in the world for the Playstation 3, with consoles retailing at approximately $930 (£465).
