Another record month for Nintendo

Reports from Japanese researchers reveal that sales of Wii in Japan have gone through the roof in May,outdoing sales of the PS3 by five units to one and making the Xbox 360's sale figure of just 11,082 consoles look pretty pathetic.

"If there were half a dozen good titles people wanted to play on the PS3, I'm sure it would actually be doing quite well," KBC Securities analyst Hiroshi Kamide told Reuters.

Nintendo forecasts Wii sales to triple this financial year, while Sony are still confident that they'll reach their ambitious sales forecast of 11m PS3s globally by 31 March 2008.

"We are only less than a year into the new cycle. It is wrong to say Nintendo has won and Sony has lost ... It's not game over, but it's not very encouraging," said Kamide.

Wii may have the worst graphics of the three entertainment systems, but the innovative titles and the unique control system are still capturing the imaginations of gamers world-wide and more-so in Japan, where Wii has been the biggest selling console in each of the last four months.
