In Paris no less...

HEXUS.gaming editor, Nick Haywood is over in Paris at the moment at Ubiday, a press event where press are getting the chance to play a range of new Ubisoft games that are coming out over the next year or so. We'll have more information shortly on the likes of RTS End War and the new Spinter Cell game, but he has just sent word that Ubisoft have annonced that they will be publishing the action adventure Beowulf.

Beowolf is due to be released as a film in November, so no doubt the game will be released around the same time. According to Wikipedia, Beowulf is directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film is an adaptation of the Old English epic poem Beowulf, which is supposed to be a rousing tale of man and monsters. The film will use motion capture techniques similar to Zemeckis' The Polar Express. It stars the voice talents of Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright Penn, Alison Lohman, John Malkovich, Crispin Glover, Brendan Gleeson and Angelina Jolie.

Ubisoft's game based on the film was announced in March last year and is said to be an action adventure with a unique fighting system. The team behind it are 4HEAD studios, who've been hoping that a publisher as big as Ubisoft would take over the reins. Back in March 2006, they had this to say about the game: "Beowulf is an exceptionally strong license and has the potential to make quite a splash on next-generation platforms. With 4HEAD and 3D-IO, we have brought two of the most talented teams in the industry together, in order to develop this game to its maximum potential."

According to the press release, many moons ago, Beowulf is a combat-driven action adventure game set in the realms of nordic mythology. It tells the story of a daring hero, Beowulf, and his adventures in the times of the early viking age. The innovative new fighting system and the exceptional story and characters make this game a must-have for action adventure enthusiasts.

Unfortunately we don't currently know which other formats the game will be released on, aside from Xbox 360, but we do know that the press have seen no games shown on the PS3 so far at all.

Stay tuned for more news as it comes! Assassin's Creed is what we're really waiting for!

8/ Hmmm, might be good, but based on the film, probably released at the same time, sound like it could be a stinker. But it's not being published by EA, and it does sound like it will be good. Hopefully both the film and the game will do the story justice, otherwise it would be a complete waste of an excellent tale.
Urgh the Moulin Rouge is in the dirtiest scummiest area of Paris full of run down pron shops, the place itself is ok, kind of cool actual. Like a diamond in a cesspit.
