Gaming website gets an earful

David Jaffe, the game designer behind the upcoming Playstation Network title, Calling All Cars doesn't pull any punches if a website dares to give his new game a poor review.

On his personal blog the designer has torn into the website, said to be Joystiq, after they printed their negative opinion of the cops 'n robbers game.

TO THE LAME ASS WEBSITE THAT SHALL GO UNNAMED (he names it at the end)- XXXX you, guys. Go XXXX yourselves. What other developer makes a XXXXing change to a game when a review (IGN's in this case) has a good, valid point and is willing to open the XXXXing code up at the risk of more bugs to make the game better? Amazing. But hey, you guys are great, you guys rock. I hope Kotaku XXXXing puts your ass out of business, wanna be XXXXtards. And if you were actual journalists you would have read the XXXXing quote I posted on NEOGAF where I said because of the two bugs we needed to fix (not because I was afraid of the bargin bin) we had a window of opp. to fix the magnet problem. AXXholes...total XXXXing XXXholes.

A charming outburst I'm sure you'll agree, but why not just contact the website in question and ask if he could post a public response, rather than making himself look like a teenage foul-mouthed yob and throwing his toys out of the pram?

Jaffe obviously feels passionate about his game and has recently delayed the launch to iron out some existing bugs, but you can't expect review websites to hold back if they feel something is wrong with a video game.

On the flip side, it's actual great to hear some feedback from a game designer, even if it doesn't back up his argument.

Do you think Jaffe's outburst is justified? Let us know in the forums.

Yeah very nice. Real good developer, but then many coders are immature and really can't see the bigger picture.

Then again…maybe it is a kid, the graphics looks like a kids scrawlings.
What?
The outburst is aimed at Joystiq, not Gamespot. Why do you think he mentioned Kotaku?

Take a read of his blog maybe, people are getting their wires crossed because two things happened regarding Calling All Cars.

- Gamespot marked the game down due to lack of content. He posts a response saying he thinks it's unfair considering it's a $10 multiplayer XBLA game. He has a point. He doesn't hate on Gamespot at all, he even says;

Gamespot was not saying it’s a **** game. They seemed to like aspects of it. So I’m not bashing them or the score so much as just being confused a bit.

- IGN reviewed the game and mentioned there were some bugs and being a good developer Jaffe decided to fix them before releasing it. Rather than being happy that he did so, rather than leaving it and releasing an update later on Joystiq posted some bitchy remarks. That's what his outburst was in reply to.

Christ, he even added this to the end of the VERY SAME post

ps. oh and JUST to make it CLEAR since it doesn't seem to be: I like GAMESPOT, have respect for them, always have. Hell I pay for the damn thing every year. I don't agree with the review but I've always dug the folks over there and continue to do so. Hope they will like our next game alot more!

Bit more research next time, please.

This is what he says on his site:

I've interpreted this incorrectly I think?!?
He likes Gamespot. There's nothing to interpret, surely.

He doesn't agree with their review, so I guessed the whole rant was about them as he posted that comment attached to his rant, but I see now he was just trying to clarify that it wasn't gamespot. Plus I'd read in a few other places that it was Gamespot so put two and two together and made 5. My bad.
