Play PS1 games

The new PS3 system update, version 1.70, has been released today and will allow gamers to play PS3 compatible PS1 games. The technology will apparently be activated on the 26th April, when PS1 games will be made available to download via the Playstation Store. The games can then either be played on the PS3 or copied onto a PSP memory stick.

The PS3 update ties in with an update for the PSP, called version 3.40, which needs to be downloaded if players want to play these PS1 titles on their handheld.

The PS3 system update is also said to improve vibration in PS1 and PS2 peripherals, including the GT-Force Pro steering wheel.
