We reported earlier in the week that Makro, the chain of self-service wholesale stores, were offering the Xbox 360 premium console, bundled with a wireless controller for the knock down price of £199 + VAT. Play.com have now made mince-meat of the deal by offering the Xbox 360 core system for £150, knocking £50 off the retail price. That's cheaper than a Wii! If you take advantage of the PLAY offer and head over to the likes of SCAN, you can upgrade the core console with a 20GB hard drive for £62.26, meaning that the whole package would only cost £212.26!

It's not just the Xbox 360 consoles that are coming down in price either, retailers have begun to slash the price of Sony's Playstation 2 entertainment system. ASDA are selling the console from today for just £49, "...I'd get here as early as you can if I were you. We're expecting a massive response once word gets out - and we've only got a certain number available", an Asda shop assistant told MCV. With some great games still being released for PS2, such as Okami, if you haven't picked one up yet now may be the ideal time.

Now, all we need is a retailer to offer a PS3 for about...er...£200 less than the retail price and we'll definitely pick one up.

UPDATE : Amazon.co.uk are now offering the Core Xbox 360 for £189.99 and the pink PSP for £109.99, £40 below the recommended retail price.

Just took advantage of the play offer. Can miss a deal like that. The Games and accessories I bought cost more than the console!
