Following the influx of bad press surrounding HMV's ludicrous PS3 bundle offer , in which they were tempting people to plug for a £625 deal consisting of a PSP, two games and a PS3, the company have now decided to can the idea. Perhaps HMV aren't so stupid after all!

Apparently, HMV received numerous complaints from customers regarding the deal after they sent out an emailing stating, "We've been working with Sony to offer up to 5,000 customers an incredible deal when [they] buy the new Sony 4GB PSP. Anyone who takes advantage of this offer will get priority over other HMV.co.uk customers for the Playstation 3."

HMV now say that they will offer PS3s on a strictly first come, first served basis, with priority going to customers who initially registered interest in pre-ordering the console.

Here's the official statement: “Now that we've been able to confirm our level of PS3 stock with Sony, we're in a position to revise our original online offer. We will therefore be writing imminently to all the customers who have indicated that they wish to make the dual purchase to advise them that they can now pre-order the PS3 console by itself, if they prefer.”

Good. They were taking the pee over this. Just like when they tried to break the Gears embargo to take advantage of those who were desperate to play it.
