Times are changing and advertisers have been constantly looking for new ways to promote their services and products. In-game advertising is nothing new and more and more developers are jumping on the bandwagon to create some extra revenue, including Valve Software, creators of the Half Life 2 series.

From early next year, Valve are set to debut in-game advertising in Counter Strike, but will hold off introducing them in Counter Strike: Source and Condition Zero until they gauge the fan's reaction in the new year.

“There will be some ads posted on walls in the game world, an ad on the scoreboard screen, and one in the letterboxed area of Spectator mod,.” said Director of Marketing, Doug Lambardi, in a interview with CS Nation. Doug played down the idea that in-game advertisments will be intrusive by saying,"“We make these kinds of decisions with our entire community in mind, not just the people who play Counter-Strike … For a long time we’ve looked for new ways to let mod authors make money … If this experiment with advertising in CS 1.6 is successful, it may turn out that we’re able to help the next round of successful mods get off the ground because of ad revenue.”

The advertising campaign will be run by IGA Worldwide, who ran an advertising campaign without Valve's permission earlier this year. CS Nation have further information on the plans on their website.
