Nintendo have finally gone on record to reveal the sales figures since the launch of their Wii console. Wii launched in the US on November 19th and Nintendo claim that they sold 600,000 consoles in the the first 8 days.

"Even with sales already in excess of 600,000 units, demand continues to exceed supply, as it's clear this is one of the 'gotta-have' products for the holiday season," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "We've shipped retailers several times the amount of hardware the other company was able to deliver for its launch around the same time -- and we still sold out. Given the inclusive nature of Wii game play, we're seeing this new form of video gaming is already a huge hit with gamers and newcomers alike. It continues to be a phenomenal launch."

The figures shatter the statistics from last year's Xbox 360 launch where 400,000 units were sold in the first week. The Legend of Zelda :Twilight Princess currently tops the Wii charts for the biggest selling title with approximately 454,000 units being sold.

awesome, im pleased for nintendo :)
Yey! Go Nintendo!

They deserve this after the cube which deserved more praise than it got
Not surprising they are easier to make than the other two for starters.

I'd be interested to see the figures for japan for each and total sales for all of them in six months to compare.
Excellent news, good to see Nintendo doing well outside the home territory.

Can't help but think we need the US adverts here to explain what its all about, the people playing instruments doesn't say much…unless its part of a bigger picture. My girlfriend thought I was buying some synth because of the musical stuff!

EDIT: Just seen the Wii Zelda advert and that definitley shows it off better! Woo yay to Nintendo.
