A number of European gamers eager to get their hands on the Playstation 3 before the March 2007 launch date are being ripped off by numerous scams currently doing the rounds on the internet.

Sony are doing everything in their power to stop many of the adverts that are claiming that European consumers can purchase a PS3 in time for Christmas by calling a premium rate phone number.

Sony have released the following statement to MCV:

"SCEE has been made aware of this promotion, and we are investigating it further. We have forwarded the details onto Trading Standards, and urge all consumers to wait until the official European PS3 launch in March."

We'd also suggest that you steer clear of ordering the PS3 online from overseas and just wait until the March launch. If you are desperate to get your hands on a console this Christmas there will be plenty of Xbox 360s and Wiis in the shops!
