The producer of Full Auto has revealed some interesting snippets of information regarding the functionality of the PS3's online service. In an interview on the Official Playstation Magazine's podcast, Mike Gallo has spoken about how Full Auto 2's online functions will work.

"When you first turn on the machine it logs you in automatically, I think you can change that in the settings. You have a user ID and an online profile, thats set up through the PlayStation, we don't have anything to do with that. That's all done through the PlayStation Network." He continued by saying "We use Gamespy as part of our backend. And we do support your user profile, or whatever the final name for that's gonna be for the [PS3], that'll be what gets logged for stats."

It's certainly no surprise that the Playstation Network mirrors the Xbox live service, after all Microsoft have successfully managed to bring their stable and user friendly online service to gamers since 2002. The main difference between the Playstation Network and Xbox Live will be the fact that matchmaking and every other service offered on PC games with online capabilities will be free of charge.

The GameSpy technology significantly extends the capabilities of online game titles by enabling competitive team play - even across platforms - with worldwide matchmaking and advanced awards systems. In addition to the PS3, GameSpy technology is available for the PC, PlayStation 2, PSP, Xbox, Nintendo DS, Linux and Macintosh platforms.

Only a few weeks ago the creators of the Tony Hawk series, Neversoft, revealed that their latest game in the Tony Hawk series is set for the November launch, but it will not be online compatible because they "still hadn't received all of the software libraries and has no indication of how the online components will work on PS3." The fact that a developer has now stepped forward to talk about the online capabilities of the PS3 is good news and may help to quash rumours that the Playstation Network won't be ready for launch.
