Sony have already confirmed that the PS3 online service will be available on launch day...but will it?

The creators of the Tony Hawk series, Neversoft, have revealed to IGN that their latest game in the Tony Hawk series is set for the November launch, but it will not be online compatible because Neversoft "still hasn't received all of the software libraries and has no indication of how the online components will work on PS3."

The Tony Hawk games are huge titles and we know that Neversoft wanted their game to be functional online, but if it's true its clear that either Sony haven't been communicating properly with developers, or the online componenet of the PS3 is way behind target.

Back in May, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi confirmed that the PS3 online service will be free from subscription fees, with money being made instead through the download service.

The Xbox live service wiped the floor with Sony’s under par online service for the PS2. Whilst Microsoft have a unified, subscription-based online service, the PS2 online service is run on third-party servers. This results in lag whenever there is a slow connection. The PS3 live service however should be worlds apart from PS2 online gaming...but when will we see it?

We have to wait until March anyway, so let's hope that any problems have been ironed out by then.
