Sturmoviks over Manchuria

GC 2006 You could say that all aviation simulation fans are a bit odd, being the airborne version of trainspotters and, in some respects, you’d be right. We get all excited at the thought of seeing a Beaufighter or a Mosquito up close and we can often tell you the make and model of an aeroplane just from a glance at the cowl flaps…

So unless you’re one of those types who aren’t baffled by terms like rudder trim, prop pitch and torque effects, the rest of this article might, like the aircraft it talks about, go way over your head.

For a long, long time now, Oleg Maddox and his studio, 1C Company, have been churning out and continually updating the IL2 series of games, which are easily the most flown family of flights sims out there, pretty much eclipsing everything else in their popularity and reach.

But, all good things must come to an end and that end is coming as the last two add-ons for IL2 have been announced and, I’m sorry to say, that these two add-ons signal the end of Oleg Maddox’s famous support for what has to be one of the most successful flight sims ever.

The first add-on to be released will be Sturmoviks over Manchuria, which, as the name suggests, will focus on the war between Russia and Japan in 1945. Central to the game is the famous IL-10 Beast, an aircraft that went on to see nearly 30 years of service with the Soviet bloc countries.

In total there’s twelve aircraft shipping with Sturmoviks over Manchuria, including the Douglas A-20C and the new add-on features seven new Japanese fighters and three Japanese bombers. For a full list of the new aircraft, see below.

Sutrmoviks over Manchuria doesn’t just feature new aircraft but also gives you two new campaigns with a total of 45 missions that cover events such as the Japanese defence of Iwo Jima in 1944 and the IL-10’s appearance over Berlin in 1945. As well as the extensive campaigns, there’s 5 single missions and 5 co-op missions, 200 new paint schemes and 4 new black and white intro tracks.[advert]
