The director of the new Halo movie has been chosen. Neill Blomkamp is a Vancouver-based director of short films and advertisements and in 2004 won a number of accolades including being labelled as 'One of the top director's to watch'. We know absoultely nothing about the director so we've had a snoop round the net to discover what this will mean for the film.

Blomkamp's most recent work includes a short film called Alive in Joburg that shows a future in which refugees become aliens, and according to his bio he has "harnessed the powers of technology, art and creativity to bring the world imagery never before possible. Garnering his exceptional CG skills in an intelligent and specific manner, his forte is creating pure photo-real visualizations of concepts that not only can't be photographed, but exists only in his imagination."

On the appointment the producer, Peter Jackson said "As a gaming fan, I'm excited to bring Halo's premise, action and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality today's technology can provide. Fran and I are intrigued by the unique challenges this project offers, and we're delighted to be working again with our friends at Universal, and with our new ones at Fox and Microsoft. With Neill on board, I'm even more excited by the potential of this project."

Blomkamp has received high praise from all sections of the movie industry and his partnership with Jackson and co-producer Fran Walsh should mean that Halo will carry a decent script and some stunning visuals.

According to Wikipedia, the Halo movie won't be due out till 2008.Let's hope they don't hold the game back till then!
