Sony PS3
We were all a bit narked at the news that the U.K wouldn't have the choice of buying the cheaper version of the PS3 and, despite the head of Sony Computer Entertainment's UK division, Ray Maguire, suggesting that the PS3 20Gb unit will not be available in the U.K, it has today appeared on Amazon ready for preorder.
Of course this doesn't mean it's 100% fact, but the January 26th release date does suggests that Sony may have decided to release the lower priced unit shortly after the release of the 60Gb console after all.
Maquire had previously said that, "The lower-end, 20GB version of [the] PlayStation 3 has no Wi-Fi, no HDMI and none of the other slots in it, so it's really a question of where we would position it. It's more likely that we will only launch the 60GB version [in the U.K"
If Amazon have their facts correct then why would Sony change their minds? Could it be that there's been poor U.K pre-orders of the 60Gb unit? I am just playing devil's advocate but, after phoning my local GAME I discovered they've had only 9 pre-orders so far. It's early days I suppose, but I do remember the Xbox 360 list being full, with a waiting list, 3 months before the launch date.
Interesting...but there's no official word yet.
