We thought the bitch slapping exploits of the three gaming superpowers had quietened down after the few weeks that followed E3, but Sony's Kaz Hirai has now dealt a jaw crunching uppercut to Microsoft in the latest issue of Playstation Magazine.

The magazine's editors cleverly dangled a carrot in front of the nose of Hirai by suggesting that Microsft are following the same path as Sony. Hirai took full advantage of the carrot and agreed whole heartedly with PSM's statement, issuing some strong words to their competitors:

PSM: Sony and Microsoft seem to be taking the exact same path.

Hirai: We seem to. Every time we go down a path, we look behind and they're right there - we just can't shake these guys. I wish that they would come up with some strategies of their own, but they seem to be going down the path of everything we do. If you look at their strategy in other business areas as well, they tend to do that. And the other thing is, you take a look at, for example, the fact that we incorporate the Blu-ray drive from day one. You're not going to be asking me, 'So, talk to me about this Blu-ray add-on that you have. Does it work for games? Is it just for movies?' That's exactly the kind of pitfall you fall into if you launch something that's too early, too premature...

In your face Microsoft! Ding ding...seconds out Round Two.

Microsoft are copying Sony's unreleased product by launching their own console nearly a year earlier. Yeah, that's just down-right low.

He's probably reffering to PS2, and with this next gen stuff they were both being designed at similar times. It's just taken sony an extra year to sort out the release…
He's right about one thing - the 360 was launched prematurly. Theres still plenty of life in the old Xbox, and iirc the 360 cannot output full 1080p HD, so it's not even fully HD compatable.

HDTV itself is not really mainstream yet either, so that will have impacted them.

His point about sony including a blu-ray drive as standard is valid too - a lot of people will be asking why they should buy the HD drive when that is released for the xbox - will it only be for movies? will there be HD games? if so whats the point of having both drives? etc etc.
yeah, MS copied Xbox Live off Sony as well didnt they
If these companies put as much time and effort into developing new technology as they did bitching about each other, we'd probably be on the Xbox 720 and Playstation 4 now.
