Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said that Wii will initially make little profit, but they don't expect a huge loss. Speaking at a marketing event in Japan today, Iwata said that they expect to ship around six million consoles and 17 million Wii games worldwide before March 31st 2007.

Iwata also confirmed that production of the DS Lite is to be increased from 1.6 units per month to 2 miliion units per month

Whilst Nintendo are confident on small losses, if any at all, Sony's Playstation 3 is set to make huge losses if reports on the price of manufacturing the units are correct. The estimated bill of materials for the PS3 is approximately $725 and $905 and the suggested retail price for the 60Gb version is $599 in the U.S. The cost of proucing the Wii is still undetermined but Nintendo appear confident in offering the console at a low price.

There is currently no release date or price confirmed for Nintendo's latest console, but it is expected to retail at less that Ā£200.
