Nintendo lose out on the domain name

Nintendo were slow off the mark when registering the domain name Wii.com. The Wii.com domain was bought in August 1994 by Willamette Industries of Portland, Oregon. Bang the web address into your browser and you'll head straight to the website of the Weyerhaeuser Company, an international forest products company.

Apparently Nintendo have not even approached the company with an offer to buy it back. Nintendo have recently bought the domain name, www.wiichannel.com so it seems likely that this will be the main portal to everything Wii related.

Meanwhile, the Weyerhaeuser Company can look forward to a healthy boost of traffic over the coming months.

Not really surprising that they didn't get it - I remember a news story from years back that said all possible .com web addresses of 4 characters and below had been registered.
why not just use the subdomain wii.nintendo.com like they do for mario.nintendo.com?

Bit of a nothing story really, but an interesting tidbit i suppose.
slow news day? lol

lmao at the last sentence in the story tho :)
