David Reeves has revealed, in an exclusive interview with trade magazine MCV, that the European PS3 units will be first off the production line.

"I hope we will be day and date with [the] US and I hope that we'll get the same quantities as US as well. I don't think we'll be disadvantaged. In fact I believe the first PS3s being manufactured are being made for Europe - which is a first," said Reeves, the Europeon President and CEO of Sony.

Of course this doesn't mean that we'll get our hands on the console before anyone else, but it does mean that we should have a plentiful supply of units to meet demand - or does it?

Reeves was quick to put a dampener on the exciting news by saying, "Between November 17th and December 31st we'll hope to put them in as many European territories as we can, even if we have to place small seed quantities on day one."

Traditionally Europe is placed at the back of the queue when it comes to console launch days, so it's good news, but don't expect shelves to be heaving with PS3's from day one. You'll still need to pre-order one to be certain.

Who said PAL units? Must have been a right idiot. :)

Correction: Sony's announced PS3 consoles will launch region-free for games - any game anywhere in the world will play on any PlayStation 3 console purchased in any nation – in theory.
Crikey! Seems a lot of people these days are starting to take Europe into consideration!

Good news for us!
