Opera browser for Wii

Opera announced last week that Wii users will be able to surf the Internet with a version of the Opera web browser. Users will be able to navigate the Web through the innovative Wii Remote.

"We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Nintendo, and work with them to deliver the best gaming experience on the Wii console and the Nintendo DS," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software.

Although specific capabilities of the web browser are still under development, Opera have said it will be a full-featured browser. "For our Wii console launch in 2006, we required a browser that was fast and secure with support for the latest standards including AJAX. Opera proved perfect for our purposes and is an exceptional addition to both the Nintendo DS and the Wii console," said Genyo Takeda, senior managing director and general manager, Integrated Research & Development Division, Nintendo Co., Ltd.

This will be another feather in the cap of Nintendo, Microsoft's Xbox 360 can only download browsers with limited functionality

In February Nintendo announced a similar deal with Opera for the Nintendo DS.
