Islamic propaganda
U.S officials have pointed the finger at gamers who are apparently modifying war games for their own religious agenda. U.S officials say that these potential militants, from the likes of Al Qaeda, "modify it (the war game) and change the game for their needs".
This video , which was released in December and is currently under scrutiny by U.S officials, is said to demonstrate Islamic propaganda. Despite the video being made by a Planet Battlefield forum member called SonicJihad, many of the comments, made by U.S citizens, have been complementary.
Propaganda is everywhere, in our literature, on our radios, and even inside our televisions. Put the boot on the other foot and wouldn't you say that most war games are swamped with U.S propaganda? Back in the mid-nineties, a Doom II mod was released called 'Marine Doom'. This mod was created specifically to encourage new recruits to join the army. Although the mod wasn't supposed to be released it was widely available online and featured screaming Nazi clones.
The first government backed propaganda videogame was America's Army, where any player who consistently gains a high score is said to receive an email from an army recruitment officer. America's Army was said to 'globally promote a one-sided and self-glorifying message about this army with its interventions.'
The words POT, KETTLE and BLACK spring to mind.
