PS3 price revealed

Sony’s Playstation 3 will be priced between €499 and €599 in Europe when the console is released in early November. The Sony Vice President, George Fornay, let the price slip on an interview with a French radio station.

He defended the high price bracket by pointing out that the PS3 will be an entertainment package and not just a game's console.

Fornay himself feels that the price is cheap considering the equipped features, including HD DVD format, Blu-Ray.

Analysts were predicting that the PS3 could retail at a price of up to $700 and, although prices haven't been confirmed in the other territories, it seems the analysts were close to the mark. The conversion between Euros and dollars could mean it would retail at between $612-$735.

The Xbox 360 was considerably cheaper, retailing at €399 in Europe and $399 in the United States.

The price of the PS3 means that it will be the most expensive of the next-gen consoles.
