3000AD turn to 360

Two new games developed by 3000AD will make their way to the Xbox 360, although dates have not been confirmed.

Hostile Intent: Planetfall and KnightBlade: Line Of Defense are the two titles and will both feature online play.

The following statement was issued on the 3000AD forums:

We were one of the very first indie developers to be accepted to Microsoft's Registered Developer Program back when the original XBox was first announced. We remained on the program, learning about the console etc with the intent to port one of our games (UC at the time) to it.

However, the effort would have meant tremendous sacrificies to the original game premise and design, given the confines of the console platform. So, we had to scuttle the design and went on to focus on UCAWA for the PC.

The advent of the Xbox360 console renewed our interest. Once final stats were released, it proved once again that I had to wait around for hardware to catch up to my grand ideas.

The XBox360 is undoubtedly the next evolution in the way we design and develop games; and IMO is poised to hammer in one of the final nails in the PC gaming coffin. There, I've said it.

A few months back after we were once again accepted to the XBox360 RDP, I embarked on a design to bring one of my titles to the console while excercising restraint and not going overboard.

The result is HIP (Yes please. Kill me now).

Based on our existing and upcoming new technologies, the design focuses on a pure action game which eschews most - if not all - of the sim and complex elements which have been the hallmark of our previous BC/UC games. Make no mistake, this game was NOT designed for - and is not targeted at - the traditional BC/UC afficionado. You have been warned.

Its all there. Vastly improved graphics engines, advanced AI, massive game world and nail biting scenarios.

While the game universe is much - much - smaller than our traditional games, in console speak, the world is still larger than traditional console games. Featuring space and planetary worlds, scenarios including space and planetary excursions; first person and vehicular combat as well as a skill based progress system (e.g. from pilot to commander) through a revised campaign system.

The idea is to blend the fun factor of your favorite multi-genre fp shooters (e.g. Battlefield, Joint Ops) with our high-end technologies which includes seamless space and planetary combat.

And yes, the XBox360 controller works just fine; thanks to our ability to revise the controls and interface on the PC, using the USB controller.

The website will be providing further details in the coming weeks, along with some screenshots.

3000AD are behind Battlecruiser 3000AD, which took seven years to develop, let's hope we don't have to wait that long!
