Gamecube or not GameCube, that is the question

The Legend of Zelda Twighlight Princess was originally due for release last year on the Gamecube. Reports suggest that the game will be released betwen summer and winter 2006. It's unclear at this point whether Nintendo will make the title Revolution exclusive or whether it will still appear on the GameCube. Back in November Nintendo UK's PR Manager told Eurogamer that, "Nintendo has always said that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will appear on Nintendo GameCube and this is still very much the case."

We would'nt put it past Nintendo to still make this the 'showcase' game for the Revolution. GameCube sales are slumping, the Revolution is upon us, and the game has been delayed. It all adds up to the fact that they must be tweaking the game for the next-gen console. GameCube fan boys may be upset if this is the case, will the GameCube legacy end with the likes of SpongeBob SquarePants and Friends, or will they go out with a bang with Zelda?

Rumours suggest that the game may utilise the Revolution-exclusive paddle control, although Nintendo have dismissed the rumour as 'pure speculation'. They do not deny this fact, only shrug it off. The original rumour was let slip by a Nintendo Senior official, who said, "Twilight Princess will be playable on the forthcoming Revolution using the upcoming console's unique controller. When you insert the disc into your Revolution, you'll be given the option to use the Revolution's controller, with all the advantages this will bring."

This picture appeared on the official Zelda site. It looks very much like a knife, exteremely dangerous, certainly a fake, but is said to be the 'magic wand' which will be used alongside the game. Pffft...it's blatantly home-made.

All we can be sure about is the brief storyline that appears on the official site:

Link, a young man raised as a wrangler in a small, rural village, is ordered by the mayor to attend the Hyrule Summit. He sets off, oblivious to the dark fate that has descended upon the kingdom. When he enters the Twilight Realm that has covered Hyrule, he transforms into a wolf and is captured. A mysterious figure named Midna helps him break free, and with the aid of her magic, they set off to free the land from the shadows.

We do know that Ganon, one of the arch enemies will return. In an interview with Nintendo Power magazine, Yoshiyuki Oyama said," I know that everyone's wondering what's going on with Link's old nemesis. All I can say now is, we're preparing more than you could possibly ever, ever, expect...". Exciting news indeed!

Zelda: TP has topped numerous poles as being the most highly anticipated game of 2006, no wonder Nintendo are being so tight-lipped. We can't wait!
