Everglide Ricochet 2.52

Never one to do things by halves, we’ve got no less than six mouse mats in for a massive review session. Time to fire up F.E.A.R. and CS:S and take these babies for a spin.

Everglide Ricochet 2.52

First to fall under the mouse is the Everglide Ricochet 2.52, so called because it’s just 2.52mm thick… but what makes the 2.52 stand out from other mouse mats is that its rock hard… this isn’t a mouse mat as such, but more of a mouse surface being made of what feels like high-impact plastic. Measuring 30cm by 24cm and with a usable area of 29cm x 23cm, the Ricochet 2.52 is ideal for those with slide out keyboard shelves. You can shuffle the keyboard over to the left a little, stick the Ricochet 2.52 down and have some of it overhanging the edge of the shelf and still have plenty of room to game.

The reason there’s a difference in actual and usable areas is because the Ricochet 2.52 has eight rubberised non-slip feet dotted along the edges to prevent the mat sliding around. With today’s optical mice running with so little ground clearance, those feet work as helpful buffer for the edge of the mat too. The Ricochet 2.52 is double sided, offering up two choices of non-stick mousing surface. One is near smooth whilst the other is slightly rougher, though there’s hardly any discernible difference between using one of the other. Each worked perfectly with range of optical mice, though our ball mouse did skip a bit with sudden movements.

If you’re a gamer who’s tight on space and likes a solid surface, the Ricochet 2.52 is the mouse mat for you, providing solid, faultless performance. We’ve been running with this mat for a quite a while now and other than a quick dust every now and then, it’s performed well. The smooth surface seems to attract and trap less dust than a fibre covered mouse mat meaning that even with a month of abuse our gaming mouse still has a clear lens and feet. I suppose it’s a testament to the mat that we’ve picked it as the mat of choice when reviewing on the gaming rig.

Out of the solid mouse mats on review, the Everglide Ricochet 2.52 just pips the Razer eXactMat to the Editor’s Choice Award
