Xbox 360 liquid cooling

Following on from Steven’s post earlier about liquid cooling for the Xbox 360, we’ve managed to obtain what we think are the first pics on the net of what this liquid cooling solution looks like in action!

The MTEC technology used to liquid cool the Xbox 360 is, claim makers CoolIT, a unique solution that gives more stable performance, better temperatures and above all, a quieter console.

These pictures give little away, so knowing whether you have to crack open your brand new Xbox 360 and void the warranty is tricky to say, but we hope to have some answers on that one soon.

According to their press release, “CoolIT Systems has designed a retrofit product that will transform the stock forced air cooling system with a state-of-the-art liquid-chilled system that employs the exclusive MTEC technology pioneered by CoolIT Systems.”

So we’re guessing just as much as you guys are!

There is no overheating issues, come on they have sold hundreds of thousands of these units. There is a few cases, but percentage wise its very low.

Meaning how many people on HEXUS have a dead console? 1 person?

Nick and I have used these for many hours, and no problems with overheating - I have had mine on solid since I got it as has Nick....

The value of watercooling it is down to the fact it will be quieter... My console certainly is far from unstable

Add to that the fact that the psu is one of the major causes of heat and this won't watercool that. Also the noisiest bit is the dvd drive and you've got a very expensive item thats going to be difficult to sell :)Quote
I thought they were going to be water cooled in the first place? Thats what i heard and i saw pictures.

Ah, here it is

See this video: http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEEVAuyFZuOyJuFoEz.phpQuote
Aye, there is liquid cooling in the heat pipes etc.

As to the overheating issue, I don't see that as actually being a problem... as Gordy says, the majority were PSU issues, which needs more airspace than you might be used to allowing around your powerbricks.

We know of one unit being faulty on receipt which, given the thousands of units shipped, is unfortunate for the guy who got it but still not a bad failure ratio per working unit.

I have been using my Xbox 360 as a media extender since the 2nd December so as such, if I'm not gaming on it, we're using it for MCE stuff and doing PVR... as such, the 360 has been on very nearly constantly with perhaps two or three nights off, if that and it's been solid as a rock... in fact, the only time I've had trouble was using MCE when I overloaded the CPU on my media PC with recording and rewinding the recording as it was recording... and running PSP, Outlook and FF at the same time... so it was my MCE PC that fell over, not the Xbox! :DQuote
So maybe they can watercool the PSU?

LOL how fatal would that beQuote
wow, seems a little extreme (the ebay 1)Quote
