Hackers Go after 360

An anonymous group of Dutch hackers named Team PI Coder have decoded discs for the Xbox 360. The team has posted binary images of 360 games discs across the internet along with a "dump extractor" which allows you to extract files and source code. There is an online database which can be accesed by request and binary images of all of the 360 launch games are available.

When commenting on the dump extractor Team PI said "The purpose is to enable individuals to not only study the structure of the games' contents, but also to decipher the new console's proprietary file system, which the team says is similar to that of the original Xbox."

"Once you get past the protections and down to the raw bits on the disc," says a "Team PI Coder" , the file system is "just the standard xboxdvdfs [Xbox DVD file system]."

Gamers are already burning 360 games to DVD-R and waiting for the mod chip to arrive that will enable them to play those games

Team Xecuter appear to have their finger on the button when it comes to getting the latest news on the hacking of the 360 and mod chips. The dumping tool is available on their webiste saying "there's not much you could do with a XBOX 360 image unless perhaps you wanted to do some reverse engineering, naughty, naughty!!". Naughty indeed!

It's extremely unlikely that Xbox 360 will remain totally secure for much longer. Huge resources are being ploughed into the cracking of the system and it seems as though it's only a matter of time. Microsoft are yet to comment on the matter.

This information is from the Xbox 360 newsgroup on Newsnet, Team Xecuter And TG Daily.

Typical. I knew it would not take them long to decode the data.
At the release of any major new console, there is always a race to be the first group which breaks the code. Clever guys in all honesty, but illegal nonetheless. :)
Now while to do not approve of (stealing) downloading illegal stuff(I don't do it myself), but I'm happy to see when this or that copy protection/encryption system is cracked. I just hate that filth and it generally causes more damage to the regular end user than it does to the hackers who crack the stuff in the first place.
I'm supprised it took em this long, nothing is safe viva la revolution ;)
