Valve has launched the Steam Trading Beta phase where users can trade Team Fortress 2 items and Steam Gifts via the official website.

Any game you’ve purchased from the store as a gift, or received as an extra copy, can be traded to other users. They can be used to trade for other gifts too, or for items in Team Fortress 2.

"We’ve added a new checkout option to the Store when purchasing a gift so you can save it for trading or sending later, to support users who want to save games for trade fodder," says Valve.

Valve have also said that it's working closely with developers to incorporate more games and items in the coming months.

To gain access to the beta, head to your Steam client, click Steam, Settings and select the 'Steam Trading Beta' option.

Would have been good if they had added the option to trade games I have received several copies of (think indie packs with 6 games, 2 of which I already owned - Which happens a lot!)

Completely agree. There is no loss of sale and there could be boosts if the person who got the gift is encouraged to by the pack.

It's a WIN - WIN situation.

I may have misunderstood but i thought that is what they have done due to this line in the article "Any game you’ve purchased from the store as a gift, or received as an extra copy, can be traded to other users. They can be used to trade for other gifts too"

Currently i just give my extra copy's away to friends but i do have a couple spare copy's of games that all my other friends have or do not want so this might be quite useful.

They do already, it's just on a very minute selection of games.

I find it a bit irritating that they don't to be honest. If I buy a pack of 4 games, someone saying that I don't get the 4th one because I already bought one a few weeks ago seems a bit insulting.
