A new tech demo by German graphics engine developer Trinigy shows what Sony's NGP handheld is capable of if developers take full advantage of the technology.

Trinigy has released the video to show off the Vision Engine, a version of which has most recently been used to power JoWood's Arcania: A Gothic Tale on PC and PS3.

Though not as impressive as Sony's own Metal Gear Solid 4 tech demo shown at the Tokyo Game Show last year, the Vision Engine does showcase some impressive effects including dynamic lighting and multi-threaded architecture.

The NGP, also referred to as Next Generation Portable is the successor to the PlayStation Portable and is due for release in Japan at the end of the year, with European and North American release dates to follow.

The NGP comes packed with three motion sensors, a gyroscope, an accelerometer and electronic compass - all technologies that feature in the motion-sensing periperheral for PS3, PlayStation Move. It has an oval shape, two cameras on the front and back, and will sport two analog sticks. The multi-touch 960x544 OLED display will measure 5 inches and will allow you to interact with games in "three dimension-like motion, through "touch, grab, trace, push and pull" moves of the fingers."

Have to agree, seemed to be largely what I would have expected.
