BioWare's executive producer, Casey Hudson, knows that the award-winning Mass Effect franchise has the potential to make an excellent backdrop for a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG), but it still looks like we’ll be in for quite a wait before the idea crosses over into reality.

Speaking with Game Informer, Hudson says that Bioware has been listening to the community's call for an MMO and believes that such a move would "make sense."

"A lot of people say that they want to see an MMO, I think that kind of makes sense for this universe," says Hudson. However, he also said that plans for an MMO have yet been made

That’s going to be a mammoth project which is likely to take many years, but it is quite probable that Bioware will initially look at adding other multiplayer options for future Mass Effect instalments.

“Multiplayer is something we want to do more of in the future as a company," says Hudson

Rumour has it that Bioware was hiring multiplayer programmers last year to work on a Mass Effect spin-off; possibly a shooter aimed toward the typcial Call Of Duty audience.

Oh noes! Looks like I will have less free time now!:D
They should work out normal multiplayer first IMHO.

+1

I'm Kalniel on this, a decent co-op mode would be nice. ME (thus far) has used the unreal engine and it would be a much smaller step to go from SP to normal multiplayer than it would to go all the way up to MMO… MMO might need a new engine to be effective? (longer development time)
I hope putting effort into multi-player doesn't mean less effort going into single-player though, ME is a great series and I'd hate to see that change.
The more Mass Effect properties the less enamoured I am with the franchise I loved the first one so much but I don't want to enthralled with the universe for it to be ruined by cheap cash in products.

I do think a coop game set in the ME universe could work pretty well though human turian buddy game.
