The rumour that Blizzard Entertainment is planning to bring Diablo III to consoles as well as PC has long been doing the rounds, but more evidence has surfaced this week in the form of a job advertisement.

On the official Blizzard website, a post is available for a Senior Producer for Diablo III on consoles based at the developer’s California office.

Since Diablo III's announcement in 2008, a console port has been mentioned on several occasions, including by Blizzard president Mike Morhaime.

"I think there is a pretty good argument to be made that that type of game might work very well on consoles," he said in an interview with Shacknews in 2008. "There might be some technical limitations though that we might need to get past."

Blizzard has since responded to the increasing interest in Diablo III's possible arrival on Xbox 360 and PS3 by telling Games On Net.

“Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don’t intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game.”

It sounds from that, that Blizzard is trying to reassure gamers that the quality of Diablo III on PC won't be affected by the arrival of a console version. But it does sound like the decision has definitely been made to release the game on Xbox and PS3 sometime after the PC version.
