50% of all games to be 3D...

Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot has said in a conference yesterday that he expects 50% of all games to be 3D by 2012.

"The 3D games are going to come more and more with the TV screens that are available," Guillemot said. "We did Avatar last year and the experience was enhanced by the 3D experience. On the 360, PS3 but also maybe on portable machines. So we can count on substantial growth on the 3D aspect just because it's more immersive."

"I think next year [2011] we should maybe see 15-20 percent of games that will be 3D on next-generation consoles. And then the following year it will be 50 percent," Guillemot said. Sony has been leading the charge with 3D on the PlayStation 3, but Nintendo, with the 3DS, and Microsoft with the Xbox 360 also seem to be keen to cash in.

It seems that this last year has seen a massive boom in 3D and it’s just going to keep rising, but how comfortable are you going to feel having to wear those 3D glasses for half of your games?

Good news for the 3d community.
Am I the only one who doesn't really get 3d. Sure it was pretty in Avatar but not pretty enough for me to spend £££ on upgrading my TV, Computer, monitor etc just to see it. Personally I really hope this isn't going to happen and this is just a fad. Roll on 3d when we don't need stupid glasses!
I already wear a pair of glasses, why on this green earth would i wear another pair over these? really doesn't intrest me in any way unless they can bundle it in the TV itself.
I'm one of those that don't really care much about 3D, mostly as it just leaves me with a headache (due mostly to a eye defect). I think I'll save my money and put it into something more worthwhile somehow.

My 42" plasma TV will last me a while yet I'm expecting, so hopefully a while before needing to upgrade.
There's 3D vision without the use of glasses already in affect, it's called autostereoscopy.
I personally don't buy into the whole 3D thing, sure it's great to catch the odd 3D movie in the theatre but 50% of all games.. I don't think so.
