4 Player Co-op.

Mark Lamia from Treyarch has revealed more information about Black Ops to a website in the US.

No mention of dedicated servers though, which seems to be the main thing on most prospective buyers' lips.

The things that were mentioned are interesting though:

  • 2-4 Player co-op. (No mention of it being campaign or a separate game mode though)
  • The campaign will put you in the shoes of at least two main characters, from both the American and Russian sides of the Cold War.
  • The setting is actually a "longer period during [the] era."
  • The story is supposed to be much more emotional than previous games by using the same animation system that was used in Avatar.
  • Treyarch's writers main focus is on "telling an epic story."
  • The SR-71 Blackbird will replace the AC-130.
  • Real life black-ops veterans were consulted during research to provide a more gripping store and more accurate weaponry.
  • A range of new weapons including a crossbow, and weapons will be "modifiable".
We still live in hope of a lower RRP and a longer campaign though, just got to wait and see what happens now.

The SR-71 Blackbird will replace the AC-130.

What idiot came up with that idea? I mean it's clear CoD doesn't take accuracy or realism remotely seriously but couldn't they at least make an effort to make themselves not look like complete idiots to people who know their weapons/vehicles/etc? Stupid things like that really kill any feelings of immersion in a game. But it's unlikely I'll be buying this after the MW2 monstrosity unless it's exceptionally good, but I'm guessing it will just be CoD4 map pack 4 for the low, low cost of £45…

Was there a better alternative available around the cold war era? I don't know the slightest thing when it comes to planes or owt like that.
My point is the Blackbird isn't an alternative, it's a high-supersonic, high altitude reconnaissance plane NOT a gunship - there's a slight difference. It's like saying a Ferarri F430 is a good alternative to a Challenger 2 on the battlefield…
They never said it would be a gunship though, maybe it's going to be a really dull picture taking round - sort of like Pokemon Snap…

“Of course as you'd have seen in the debut trailer Black Ops also features pilotable vehicles, including the SR-71 Blackbird (which has you guiding troops on the ground past guard patrols - a bit like Modern Warfare's own air missions) and the helicopter, which OXM stresses is fully controllable - you even have helicopter-on-helicopter gun fights.”

On the other hand:

“You play as a member of the Studies and Operations Group (SOG), a pocket of CIA-sanctioned forces whose methods are unconventional and actions deniable.”

Yawn. Bring back the SAS already.
Ah right I thought they were planning on using it as a direct replacement for the Ac-130 i.e. gunship role.
