Steam to release new client

Valve has revealed that as of next Monday, April the 26th, its redesigned Steam client will make the transition from Beta status to a full release.

The new Steam Client has lots of new features, and seems to focus more on features such as achievements and social networking, making for a more community based client. The Steam client also has a very modern and completely redesigned GUI which makes browsing easier and allows much more customisation to tailor the GUI to your exact needs.

The other big news from Steam is its imminent release of its very popular games service on the Mac platform. Steam announced that its service would be available for Mac in April which only leaves another week before the release date is announced.

Looks really bulky, I prefer the compact mode as a simple games browser and storage system. I hope they keep it in. The proof is in the usage.

It's still there :)
Can't understand all the hate this is getting… Steam badly needed an overall.

It's still too slow, but the interface is far better in my eyes.
Oh I think steam is great. Originally. But the digital download boom is over, now it's a tool for keeping games in one place and up to date as far as I'm concerned as I still buy boxed copies, sometimes half, or a third of the price that they are available on steam. Internet and brick-and-mortar are fighting back. :3

I wasn't talking about you specifically, just a lot of people generally who've been moaning and complaining about the new interface and saying they preferred the old one.

I agree with you… sort of at least. I don't buy games from Steam at full price - recently I've bought Trine for £4, GTA IV for £5, ages ago bought the Orange Box for around £10. You get the picture. Bricks and mortar can't compete with those prices, which are a direct result of the download only situation. Outside of the sales though, yes, Steam charges far too much.
