No suprises here, but EA has confirmed that Mass Effect 2 will also be released as a Collectors’ Edition in limited quantities.
Available on January 29 in Europe alongside the standard edition, the Collectors’ Edition comes in a premium, tin case and includes the full version of the game, a 48-page hardcover “Art of Mass Effect 2” book, Issue 1 of the Mass Effect Redemption comic book, and a bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes and making-of videos. In addition, the Mass Effect 2 Collectors’ Edition will include unique in-game weapons and armour that can only be obtained by purchasing this version.
We're not sure of the U.K. price as yet, but the Mass Effect 2 Collectors’ Edition will retail in North America at an MSRP of $69.99 on Xbox 360 and $59.99 on PC.
The announcement of a Collector's Edition follows news last month that BioWare is releasing unique Mass Effect 2 pre-order incentives at key retailers in North America and across Europe. Codes for downloading these items will be provided to players who have pre-ordered, usable when the game is released. Pre-order bonuses include special-ops armor and weaponry that are designed to boost Commander Shepard’s skills and abilities.

I am against major items or game changers not being available to all. However some promo suits that look no-unlike Megatron or Iron Man can't really harm can they?
It's not like they are saying, pre-order in order to get the end or buy the special edition so your Sheperd doesn't die.Quote
2: It doesn't sound like just aesthetic differences though from what it says. They are saying you need to buy the game several times if you want to be able to use all the weapons.
As a console user you might be used to getting shafted, this kind of practice isn't anywhere near as common with PC games, it's a nasty precedent to set, and I really hope it doesn't become more common as a result of a big title like ME doing it.Quote
2: Reading the Pre-order bonuses, they describe armor and weaponary that boost stats in certain areas. Just like every other type of armor or weapon. In ME1 you had to choose what items you used for different bonuses. Like the Pheonix armor range that had extra healing. This is normal for ME not some special bonus _just_ for the promo DLC.
FYI I own ME on the PC.
Shafting the normal buyer is offering a game that is incomplete to them and only complete with pre-order/premium versions. This is not happening. The game is complete whether you pre-order or not. What is happening is that you get something _extra_ for pre-ordering.
Extra is the key here, I think your worry is that somehow Bioware subtracted from the full game to make these promo-extras. However the hint is that they made promo for ME2 based around buying Dragon Age and no one in their right mind thinks there was Dragon Age armor in by default in the final version of ME2. So after they made that Bioware was asked to build a couple of promo sets for retailers. One hasn't even been shown outside of concept shot, if that doesn't yell not made untill the main content was finished I don't know what will.Quote
