The Xbox 360 Elite could soon be canned in its current form and replaced with limited edition consoles that are directly linked to game launches, claims a report on Fudzilla.

Fudzilla believes that once current Elite stock has diminished, Microsoft will only manufacture Limited Edition Elites, such as the Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 (shown below) and ones linked to other AAA titles.

The website claims that, just like the Resident Evil console, the price of Limited Edition Elites will be more than their predecessor and will come bundled with a game and themed extras.

Microsoft hasn't commented on the rumour, but Fudzilla claim that we should hear more details in the next couple of weeks.

I wonder how well the limited editions would sell. Has there been any word on the uptake of the Resident Evil package? Didn't MS do this before with Halo 3 and Simpsons a while back? Personally I would rather get the 60GB system and the game for cheaper money in todays climate.
Lets face it - the Resident Evil package looks rubbish. It looks like someones taken some halfords finest spray paint to it themselves. They'll have to do better than that!

Couldn't agree more. Very dissapointing. I want shiny black to match my PS3 for the 720 :D
The anouncement / rumour seems to have knocked the price of existing stock down a bit though, £189 here.
