Following Activision's acquisition last year of the Project Gotham Racing developer, Bizarre Creations, the future of the popular racing franchise was immediately put in doubt after it confirmed that PGR4 would be the last game in the series.

Earlier this year, Microsoft's Corporate VP and boss of Game Studios, Shane Kim, did hint that future iterations of the series could end up in the hands of its internal development studio, Turn 10, the guys behind the Forza series.

"Our goal is to roll the studio so that they can do more creative execution within the racing space. So you can imagine a future where they would develop a new version of Project Gotham Racing," Kim said in an interview with Kikizo back in May.

Since then however, details have been scarce and there's been no indication that Turn 10 is stepping up to the challenge of creating PGR5. However, that could all be about to change, with strong rumours that Microsoft will announce the resurrection of the Project Gotham Racing series within the next couple of weeks and provide the first details on the next instalment, including who has taken over the reins of the series.

An article on Addict Gaming , states that a reliable source, said to be an informant from within Turn 10 itself, contacted the site and sent them an email that proves that it will be them behind the helm of Project Gotham Racing 5.

The site doesn't name the informant, and suspiciously nor does it detail the email, so for the time being we're just going to have to sit tight and wait and see if the announcement does materialise in the next two weeks.

Between the two, the PGR and Forza series have a wide scope of Xbox 360 racing covered. PGR offering all the arcade thrills anyone could ask for, and Forza providing the in-depth realism to appeal to the hardened racer.

Turn 10's Forza 2 community website has flourished since the game's release, and it's ongoing support of its faithful fans is one of its biggest strengths. PGR followers would no doubt welcome a Turn 10-developed addition to the franchise

This will be very good news if it transpires to be true. Perhaps the game could take on elements of forza and feature a larger selection of cars and perhaps more race circuits?

i dunno man i love forza 2 and pgr4 both for different reasons and am not sure if i would want them mixed

i do forza for ultra realism, and when i wanna bit of fun i do pgr as you can go sideways through corners and such without it really costing you were as in forza wheelspin or brake locks or skidding can do damage to your race and lap times

just my opinion though but would probably buy it anyway
