Back in June, Nintendo sought to put an end to Freeloader, the bootdisk that allows the user to play games from other regions on their Wii system, by releasing a firmware update that killed Datel’s import boot disk.
The update, however, was optional, so Freeloader owners who spotted the news online simply had to avoid updating their consoles to carry own playing their region-free games.
Nintendo isn't that stupid though! It has now confirmed that every game released after the 3.3 update will only work if you updated your Wii.
So, the choice is yours. 'Freeloaders' can either continue to play
only the games that they've bought from other regions for the rest of their Wii-owning lives,or choose to update and be play only region-specific code.
Not much of a choice is there really?

now thats just wrong, think nintendo have gone to far with this now. Its ok to release an update for killing the software but forcing people to not use any new games because of this is pathetic, surely nintendo cant do this as it would breach some sort of contract(i dont know lol). What happens to the small minority that doesnt have the internet? wow then they cant play new games because they cant update. I dont see why they are doing this anyways because people who buy it over america still pay for postage and import tax and so, how do they lose out? sales in Europe decrease? well they would increase in america so its even then.
Nintendo are likely to include the update on the disc, like the way Sony does with UMD's.
And it's not likely to be long before they update the freeloader to be perfectly honest. Sony's firmware typically gets cracked within 4 days, don't see why Nintendo's is going to be any different.Quote
Winner - hackers continue to come up with ways to crack the features over lunch.
Loser - the law abiding Nintendo customer subjected to the ever strict timing and rules of Nintendo and Game Publishers, Retailers, Shipping Companies, etc etc...Quote
