Microsoft has today announced the beta test program for its new Community Games initiative is available to premium XNA membership owners and the new XNA Creators Club Online community site.

The beta test will allow creators to submit games that will then be reviewed and hopefully approved for distribution over Xbox live.

This could mean that the first batch of full community games may be available as early as the summer.

“The time has come for the games industry to open its doors to all game creators, enabling anyone to share their creations with the world,” said John Schappert, corporate vice president of LIVE, Software and Services for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “Our goal is to drive a creative and social revolution in games with the same transformative power that we’ve seen in digital music and video sharing.”

To showcase what can achieved with the XNA tools, Microsoft recently released seven games created using XNA Game Studio 2.0. These games are now available to download via Xbox live.

I'm assuming these will be the same games which appeared in the previous time-limited trial?

They'll be there for sure, but they're already completed games. We're expecting loads more to be finished and approved by then.
