Arcade Edition to retail at only £15 more than Wii

Despite Microsoft’s attempt to gain a larger market share last year of the Nintendo-obsessed Japanese market, Wii still outsold the Xbox 360 by a massive 14:1.

In a last ditch attempt to attract new fans, Microsoft is releasing the cheapest of all Xbox 360 models, the Arcade Edition, in the hope that it will attract the family audience

The Arcade edition will cost approximately £15 more than Wii and will sell for ¥27,800 (£132).

According to the very latest figures, Microsoft finished bottom of the pile out of the three console manufacturers, selling just 27,044 units in Japan last month. When you compare that to the PS3, which sold 165,719, and the Wii, which sold 479,931, it’s very grim reading indeed for Microsoft’s Games Division.

The Xbox 360 arcade edition will include a HDMI port, wireless controller, 256MB memory card and five family-friendly XBLA games, and is due for release on March 6, 2008.
