Ultimate rumour

Next week sees the start of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and rumours are growing that Microsoft has some big news planned for Bill Gate's keynote speech.

Gadget magazine, Stuff claim they have the scoop on the big news and that it will come in the form of an announcement of a new Xbox 360 SKU, called Xbox 360 Ultimate. The magazine states that the console will be available in the Autumn and will feature "1080p HDMI output, built-in Wi-Fi, hi-def audio output, cooler 65nm hardware architecture and a near-silent fan."

Stuff also claim that the Xbox 360 Ultimate will sport a built-in 320GB hard-drive and a HD-DVD player. The inclusion of the large hard-drive is to accommodate the console's upcoming IPTV service, which will also apparently launch in the Autumn.

Although Microsoft has played down reports of a built-in HD-DVD player, back in October a senior Toshiba executive apparantly let slip, and then denied his comments that Micrsoft were planning to release a new console before the end of the year due to the pressure they are under to "match the success the PS3 has had on Blu-ray sales."

It's still a rumour for now, but HEXUS.gaming will be in Las Vegas reporting live from Bill Gates keynote speech to bring you the big news straight from the horse's mouth.

interesting, but how much will it cost? With the Elite at £299 I cant see this going for any less than £399 - the PS3 has shown that anything more than that will be excessive
