More room for games
Sainsbury's is set to jump on the bandwagon of the recent success in the games industry (where have they been?) by capitilising on the booming sales in 2007 through the significant increase in the size of the videogames sections in their stores."As games becomes more and more part of the mass market its relevance to us increases. An ever-broadening range of customers are shopping for games, many of whom are our core customers. The recent demand we have seen for Wii hardware has been nothing short of phenomenal and our colleagues are more excited about the category than they ever have been,”said Sainsbury's buyer Brian Foote.
So, will Sainsbury's be another supermarket who offer their games at a cheaper rate and undercut the videogame's stores? I bought Super Mario Galaxy from ASDA due to it being £2 cheaper than GAME, Gamestation and £4 cheaper than Game On and Joy Pads. Independent game stores are slowly, but surely, becoming exstinct. Is the time coming where GAME will be the only dedicated videogame store on the high street?
Incidentally, MCV are also reporting today that Marks & Spencers are also looking to extend their videogame offerings this year. Isn't it a store for OAPS?
