Sony score a home turf victory at last!
Well it's been a long time coming but at last the PS3 is starting to make an impact in Sony's backyard, Japan.According to Enterbrain, a key Japanese games mag, the PS3 sold 183,217 units in the four weeks running up to November 25th whilst the Wii sold 159,193 units... putting Sony back on top as the console king.
The thing is, and whilst not wishing to take anything away from Sony, the PS3 needs to do this in the American market and in the price-concious European market too. Undoubtedly the US market is far bigger than Japan and here is where Sony has a fight on its hands as Microsoft and Nintendo aren't going to easily give up the ground they hold there.
The pricing on the PS3 is now becoming more sensible, even if you do lose a few features, but Microsoft have responded with hardware updates and certainly the largest current gen software catalogue of the three. Meanwhile, Nintendo are still bringing out titles which feel less and less like the motion-sensing Wii Remote functions are shoe-horned into the game...
Christmas is going to be key for all three companies and I guess it's only going to be in January when we'll know if Sony has made any in-roads the commanding lead of Microsoft and Nintendo... My thoughts? Where's the killer app for the PS3? That's what'll really drive the sales....
